Tesla has been a resounding success in the automotive market with its production vehicles. Variants such as Model 3 and Model Y are among people’s favorites, although, Elon Musk has always wanted to go beyond success.

The South African outlined plans for the electric car company that encompass trucks, vans, autonomous driving system and charging stations. In the vehicle section, the Tesla Cybertruck was able to win a space in the automotive segment despite not having made its official debut.

From the moment it was announced, it caused a sensation due to its physical and technical specifications. A rather peculiar design accompanied by electrified power were part of the features that were revealed at the time.

Knowing that it would be manufactured with space rocket materials (those used by SpaceX) also added a plus of curiosity and appeal towards the SUV. However, several events have consistently delayed its mass production.

Inside the Cybertruck

Several prototypes have managed to overcome the obstacles to be put to the test. Precisely, one of them has been driven by Whole Mars Catalog, who a few months ago uploaded a small fragment to their official Twitter account showing part of the interior.

The Tesla Cybertruck was driven at the Texas Gigafactory facilities. The video is short, so you can only see the transparent glass roof and the information screen located next to the driver.

The production of the pickup truck will enter the production phase in mid-2023, although with so many problems that Tesla has gone through with this model, it is not surprising that new circumstances will delay Elon Musk’s plans.

In addition, the physical and technical specifications along with the previously known price of the Cybertruck will be modified, as stated by the company’s CEO a few weeks ago.

“A lot has changed since then, so the specs and pricing will be different. I hate to give some sort of bad news. But I think there’s no way to anticipate the inflation that we’ve seen and the various problems,” Musk said at the Cyber Roundup shareholder event.

Tesla, in addition to being known as a manufacturer of electric vehicles, also stands out for the technological section it produces for its cars. In addition, solar panels are part of its repertoire of operation. Its owner is Elon Musk, something that many people are probably aware of. This is not the South African’s only company, since SpaceX, a manufacturer of space rockets, is part of his repertoire.

Musk has already combined the potential of both companies to create a single product: Tesla Cybertruck, an electrified pickup truck with plenty of power in its powertrain and great cargo and towing capabilities that uses the same materials used in SpaceX rockets for its body.

At the moment, this is the only officially known technology “crossover” between Tesla and SpaceX. However, all the ingenuity and creativity of a German designer has revealed what a Tesla car powered by space rockets would look like.

Mixing technologies

This (unofficial) concept is called Tesla SpaceX Model R, authored by Maximilian Schneider, a designer who has worked for several well-known companies such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi and HiPhi. At first glance, the vehicle shares an aggressive shape to facilitate aerodynamics, with pronounced curves and in the central part that divert airflow to various parts of the body.

A unique cockpit would facilitate adaptation at high speeds, as would the shape of the sides, like a sort of extended pontoon (similar to a 2022 Formula 1) that elongates at the rear. This concept would only work with an electrified propulsion system accompanied by liquid hydrogen propellant rockets to deliver 2,600 horsepower with top speed of 467 km/h (290 mph) in standard mode.

Yes, Schneider’s creativity has given two versions of the Tesla SpaceX Model R, where the second would deliver 2,950 horsepower and accelerate to 526 km/h (327 mph). There is no doubt that this is a totally daring design, although unlikely to happen, but when it comes to Elon Musk, anything can be.

Tesla is fully engaged in the production of electric vehicles, from small, medium and large models. One of those generating the greatest impact since its announcement was the Cybertruck van, manufactured with materials used for Space X’s spacecraft. Now, the company led by Elon Musk is taking on a bigger challenge: Tesla Semi.

The Cybertruck stood out at the time for its aesthetic form, strength and speed. It has millions of reservations worldwide, ranging from companies to police forces. On the other hand, the Americans’ next large-scale project is an electrified truck that has recently begun accepting reservations.

What has been revealed by the manufacturer is that it will feature four independent motors that will provide maximum power and acceleration, requiring the lowest cost per mile. The vehicle will have an energy consumption of 2kWh/mi, accelerate from 0 to 60 kilometers per hour in 20 seconds, with a full charge of 80 pounds.

The range will be 300 to 500 miles. On the other hand, at a technological level it will equip an autopilot system to avoid collisions, the driver’s view will be fully centered instead of lateralized to the left as is commonly done.

Adocument introduced by Teslaon March 21, 2019 and published on March 31, 2022 unveiled the new technology that Tesla has in hand for its vehicles. As reported by Teslarati media, it is a system to control the seat temperature.

The idea itself turns out to be quite original: filling the seat with liquid by means of a pump through three layers. The materials vary between a heating component and the pump to raise or lower the temperature of the seats in the upcoming models of the U.S. manufacturer. But why?

The aforementioned media outlet claims that Tesla, in addition to filing its patent, drew up a list of reasons why such technological advancement is required. The company led by Elon Musk is based on the fact that current systems are not up to the task, in terms of space, weight and efficiency.

Related content: Tesla’s Recent Announcement Cheers Owners of Other Brands’ Electric Vehicles

The Tesla system’s layers perform their function evenly and precisely, preventing some areas from heating or cooling more than others, or on the contrary, inefficient use of it on areas of the seat where the driver does not make contact. Conventional systems such as ventilation seem to be obsolete given the new way of looking at the situation by the California manufacturer.

In general, the thermal control system in electric vehicles is powered by the battery, reducing the total autonomy, resulting in loss of kilometers when planning the route. Therefore, a separate and independent solution from the regular energy source of Tesla is presented as an alternative, representing multiple advantages ranging from reducing noise inside the car, manufacturing costs and good energy management.

If Elon Musk takes a look back and envisions what Tesla was like in the early days and now, he’s sure to be very proud. The electric vehicle manufacturer is one of the pioneers on sustainable mobility, taking the technology beyond the four wheels to provide a complete and optimal service.

The brand bet on electrification when it was still a “taboo”. Years later, Tesla is collecting the fruits obtained from a constant work that positions it on a privileged position.

The recent publication by the company proves it. Finally, Superchargers are available to third parties, meaning that any owner of an electrified car can use Tesla’s infrastructure to refuel energy, making it a difficult rival to overcome in the field.

The charging program to non-Tesla vehicles was announced in November 2021, arriving in February 2022, expanding to new countries with full intention to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility. Those who have an electrified car will now have more options to keep their battery power at 100%.

According to figures revealed by the company, there are more than 30,000 Tesla Superchargers worldwide, starting with this journey back in 2012. The nations currently available for the energy refueling service are the Netherlands, France, Norway, Germany and Belgium.

However, the only detail for non-Tesla customers will be the price, which will vary based on where they are located. 0.57 euros per kWh of recharging is the standard price for non-Tesla brands. Now, a monthly subscription of 13 euros looks much more attractive at the time of using such a service.

About Tesla Superchargers

Tesla owns and operates the world’s largest global fast-charging network. Located on major routes near convenient services, Superchargers keep their users’ vehicles charged when they are away from home.

It takes just 15 minutes to replenish up to 200 miles of range. Since charging above 80% is rarely necessary, stops are often brief and convenient.

Many know Elon Musk for being behind Tesla, one of the largest electric vehicle companies. At the time, he was also at the helm of PayPal, he also counts on the development of space technology through Space X, and yet, he continues to show a futuristic vision to expand communications through Starlink, his satellite internet network.

The project is truly ambitious and has been several years in the making. Its mission is to populate space through a network of satellites orbiting the Earth to provide high-speed Internet to different parts of the world. Today it has become a reality after announcing its implementation at Tesla’s charging stations.

This all stems from the need to speed up refueling times for electric vehicles. In addition, there is still a bit of a long wait, so having good Wi-Fi connectivity while users wait for the charging process to complete is attractive when using Tesla’s Superchargers, and consequently, that means a greater number of customers.

The Starlink connection will be available to all those users who have signed up for the premium monthly subscription, which costs $11.34 for app usage. However, it seems that a door has been left open for users to enjoy this service without being subscribed to this plan, although at the moment nothing has been specified.

Currently, there is a fleet of 1,000 Starlink satellites in operation with more than 100,000 users connected to Elon Musk’s internet network. Now, regarding Tesla’s Superchargers, there are 30,000 stations installed at more than 3,100 refueling stations, according to the U.S. company in an official statement.

About Starlink

Using advanced satellites in low orbit, Starlink enables video calls, online gaming, streaming and other high data rate activities that historically have not been possible with satellite Internet. During beta version, users will see speeds between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps and latency as low as 20ms in most locations.

A few months ago, Tesla announced that it would open the company’s superchargers to other brands, which undoubtedly represents a breakthrough for the electromobility refueling network. Now, it has enabled the first 10 charging stations that will fulfill their function for third-party vehicles.

The North Americans believed in electrification long before it became a revolution, led by Elon Musk. For some years now, they have enjoyed being one of the pioneers in this sector, so having their technological charging fleet and sharing it with the world represents a breakthrough in sustainability.

The more refueling points available, the better it is for electrified car users, since finding these locations more frequently will make more people join the transition and switch from fossil fuels to green ones, considering that one of the details when making the swap is knowing where to recharge batteries.

The Netherlands has been selected by Tesla to begin this new era for the company. Users from other manufacturers have already been able to make use of U.S. Superchargers as part of Elon Musk’s pilot program seeking to expand the network globally.

Since the Californian manufacturer arrived on the market, the company knew that the recharging of vehicles would be a challenge, so it completely avoided the need to rely on third parties (like other brands) and developed their own service network from scratch, to provide a service that goes beyond selling vehicles.

By mid-2021, as reported by Tesla, the North American firm had 29,900 superchargers located at 2,966 stations, exclusively reserved for the brand’s users until October 31. Non-Tesla users will soon have a section enabled on the mobile app to make use of the refueling stations.

Despite the chip shortage affecting the automotive industry worldwide, Tesla, owned by tycoon Elon Musk, has managed to break sales records for vehicles in recent months.

The U.S. company delivered 241,300 electric cars in the third quarter. Sales during that period were 72% higher than the 140,000 deliveries it made at the same time last year.

So far this year, Tesla has sold 627,300 vehicles, putting them on track to surpass the 2020 total of 499,550 by a wide margin.

For the third quarter of 2021, the Model 3 sedan and Y SUV led deliveries with 232,025 units, followed by the Model S and Model X with 9,275. Tesla said it produced 237,823 vehicles.

Key to Success

Tesla increasing its revenue while other automakers are struggling with the semiconductor crisis is not a big surprise. Faced with a shortage of the element, the company has begun sourcing some different types of silicon, and rewriting their software to work with those new components.

During the last month, the Tesla Model 3 was the second best-selling car with a total of 7,826 units. Among the main reasons for being relegated to second position were the production peak of Volkswagen’s ID.3.

Furthermore, the commercial debut in Europe of the Model Y, intended for those who want a more compact-sized Tesla than the Model X and Model S, has acted as an alternative to the Model 3. It is expected that, as demand for the new electric SUV from the emporium headed by Musk increases, Model 3’s sales will drop slightly.

The way Tesla goes about sales is different from other brands because it does not have dealerships, but instead manages the entire sales and delivery process in-house.

Musk is confident that production will be restored and overcome the shortage of elements to be able to manufacture normally. Besides the possible launch of the Gigafactory in Berlin, which will greatly improve the delivery process of the Tesla Model Y in Europe, the most demanded electric car on the old continent today.

Continued Investment in China

Musk reaffirmed Tesla’s commitment to China and said that the automaker will continue to expand investments in the Asian country.

According to figures provided by the company, they sold 44,264 vehicles manufactured in China during August, including 31,379 for export. This was up from 32,968 in July and 33,155 units in June.

Just a few days after announcing details about the powerful Cyber Truck, Tesla opens the doors to another shocking innovation that could be available to everyone, unlike other models practically unaffordable due to their prices.

This is the Tesla Model 2, that according to Elon Musk could be launched by 2023, and would be valued at 25 thousand dollars, significantly lower than what we are used to from this North American electric car company.

Such a low price would allow it to compete well against its main European rival, Volkswagen ID.3, and open to many new customers who cannot afford to pay for the average Model 3, so far the most accessible version in the lineup.

Related content: Le Mans Saves 10 Children with Hydrogen Generators

Although it is known that the model will not have the technological advances seen on the Model S Plaid or the Roadster, both of which come at an extremely high cost. On the other hand, if Tesla succeeds in completely achieving the full autonomous driving software, the new model would have no pedals or steering wheel.

Musk’s intention is that his highest-volume model will also be the first to incorporate Level 5 Autopilot robotic driving. However, this decision is up in the air and pending the progress made both in the final development of the system, apart from the legal constraints still in force, especially regarding the European Union.

Why is the Price Going Down?

Although the details of the new prototype have not been specified, Musk argues that the best way to lower costs is to reduce battery prices. By creating new batteries, production costs would be reduced and the vehicles would become more powerful.

On the last Tesla Battery Day, Elon Musk announced that the company is working on a new battery called 4680: it is twice the diameter of current batteries, increasing the vehicles’ range by 16% and would cost 14% less per KWh.

Everything indicates that the Tesla Model 2 will be produced at the factory in Shanghai, China, capable of assembling 450,000 vehicles per year. Meanwhile, Tesla will open in the coming weeks a European plant, located in Berlin, to produce the Model 3 and Model Y.

Elon Musk and his team are constantly coming up with ideas that will mark a turning point for new vehicle technologies. This time, Tesla patented an innovative idea that could revolutionize the future of windshield wipers by replacing them with laser beams.

It was initially filed before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on May 10, 2019, and was approved last September 7, 2021.

Tesla’s idea is to eliminate rubber windshield wipers and their associated arms, replacing them with laser beams, emitted from a bracket on the hood.

Related content: Munich Motor Show Continues to Impact: Bosch unveils groundbreaking EV Charging Cable

These would be directed at dirt or external elements on the windshield, such as water droplets. The laser beams would be limited in power to avoid exceeding the thickness of the windshield, and in real time, they would vary their power to clear the element blocking the driver’s vision.

Structure Configuration

The system will have two optical sensors in the center of the hood pointing toward the windshield that will automatically detect any debris buildup on the glass.

As can be read from the patent itself, this debris can include: “snow, water droplets, paint, bird droppings, bug stains, plant peelings, oil spills, dirt and mud”.

Read also: Student Project surprises the Automotive Industry with a Revolutionary Car

Once the debris is found, the program will emit pulsed lasers that, according to Tesla, provide a fast, effective and chemical-free solution for cleaning both vehicle glass and solar panels, although it can also work alongside other conventional windshield wiper systems.

Solution to a Problem

One of the limitations of many advanced driving assistance systems, such as the high beam assistant in cars with adaptive headlights, is that the sensor collecting the information cannot be placed on the highest edge of the windshield, the ideal position to obtain the data, as it has a larger field of view. This is because current structures do not reach all the way to the edge of the glass, and those cameras and sensors need to be clean on the outside and inside.

With Tesla’s laser cleaning program for the windshield and sensors, this inconvenience would be avoided, and the devices could be installed in the most optimum location.

This is intended to improve the operation of the lane keeping assistant, adaptive headlights, collision warning with emergency braking, pedestrian detection, among others.

This new patent would be more effective at evacuating water from the windshield of the new Tesla, but it would also be more efficient, since the traditional ones do not benefit from energy efficiency, while this would save electricity in order to increase the autonomy of the electric cars from Elon Musk’s company.
