Following a positive and outstanding chemistry between Klara Andersson and Nasser Al-Attiyah, ABT Cupra XE has decided to confirm them as drivers for Extreme E season 3, with a view to fight at the top of the table through a combination of experience, veteran, youth and talent.

Andersson will be full-time for the first time in the team, after two solid performances in the previous campaign, where she showed what she is capable of behind the wheel of the ODYSSEY 21. The Swedish driver stood out on the closing of the 2022 season in Chile (podium) and Uruguay (victory), respectively.

I’m very excited to join ABT CUPRA XE full-time for Extreme E in 2023. It’s an amazing team: I’ve already done two races replacing Jutta (Kleinschmidt), and they went very well, so racing alongside Nasser will be a pleasure again. He’s an amazing driver and an amazing person in general,” Andersson said.

Extreme E is getting ready for the second round of the season in Sardinia, Italy, a familiar territory for the category after racing there in the debut campaign. However, the Desert X Prix left several sensations on the table before jumping off the track, and one of them was the incident between Carlos Sainz and Nasser Al-Attiyah.

Two acquaintances from the Dakar Rally met again on a demanding circuit, but this time within the 100% electric off-road category. A fight between the two ended with a collision between their vehicles, which sparked many comments: Who was at fault, why did it happen, and so on.

The images provided by the official broadcast show everything that happened. Nasser Al-Attiyah goes all out towards Carlos Sainz causing the strong impact between them. However, what happened goes beyond that, because while some are focused on finding the culprits, they may not exist.

First of all, the ACCIONA | Sainz XE Team driver advances along the ideal racing line, in fact, the Spaniard was the victim in all that happened. Many charged against the Cupra driver, although, before impacting against the red and white vehicle, it is clearly seen how his ODYSSEY 21 lifts up and loses control of itself after rolling on two wheels and ending up hitting his rival.

Of course, theoretically, the one to blame is Al-Attiyah, who goes wide of the ideal track and ends up crashing into Sainz at high speed after not having the power of the vehicle in his own hands. This is probably how the race stewards saw it, as in the end he was penalized for making contact with the flag and not for hitting the Spaniard.

Now, the two will meet again in Sardinia, when the Extreme E action moves to Italy to continue the second season of the electrified off-road division. Will they cross paths on track again?

More teams are confirming their starting lineups for season 2 of Extreme E. This time, ABT Cupra XE joined the list, causing fear among its rivals, as Jutta Kleinschmidt and Nasser Al-Attiyah will be in charge of leading the team to success during the second season of the category.

Kleinschmidt will be back on board the ODYSSEY 21 with all her experience in all-terrain vehicles, as well as knowing for sure what the 100% electric and sustainable division is all about, since last season she teamed up with Mattias Ekström, Pure ETCR champion, who will no longer be with the organization for 2022.

Al-Attiyah also comes with industry knowledge, prestige and championships, as he has won the Dakar Rally four times, he is World Rally Champion, Middle East Rally Champion and four-time winner of the FIA World Cup for Cross-County Rallies.

In view of this, he hopes to seek the necessary consistency to be ahead and achieve good results.

“To be able to share my passion for off-road racing with a great team and now with a Dakar star like Nasser is a fantastic motivation. I just want to get the season started,” said Jutta.
